The sun is finally starting to shine here on the East Coast and it’s putting me in “shopping mode.” Since I already have a ton of clothing in my closet from last spring, I’m planning to add only a few small accessories and dresses to my spring/summer wardrobe. I believe that small accessories can be mix and matched with the same outfit to create a totally different look (FYI: It’s also more economical than purchasing more clothes).
Below are three of my top picks to add to a spring wardrobe:
Kealla Wedge Sandal (ALDO, $65)
Navy Enamel Bezel Silicone Metro Watch (Kate Spade, $175)
Botanical Woven Dress (Forever 21, $19.90)
New season, means new clothes! But, instead of doing a complete overhaul of my wardrobe, I have a strategic list to focus my wants and keep spending under control. Here are my spring must-haves!
Embellished Trench Coat
Betsey Johnson color-blocked ruffled trench coat.
Aldo Calcagni Wedges.
Calvin Klein, striped pleated dress.
If it doesn’t rain this weekend, I plan on relaxing on a beach in Long Island, NY. I already have two bathing suit choices, but I had to rummage through my closet to find a cover-up. I hope you all enjoy the summer weather while it last. I suggest taking a fun trip to a different city with friends, going to the beach, or an old school favorite rooftop party. Below are some beach cover-up options and a weekend outfit that I would wear day or night. It’s summer, I say just have fun and play with your looks as much as you can over the weekend! Enjoy yourself! If you have any fun weekend photos that you’d like us to post on Monday, please send them to email@example.com

Mix the old with the new to make the most out of your wardrobe.
My mother’s closet is one of my favorite places to “shop.” There’s always some gem that she forgot she owned or a piece she is bored with. I am ever so grateful for my trips back home to NY, because I take full advantage of the opportunity to rummage through her wardrobe.
I’m not alone in my adoration of my mom’s stuff. My friend, Jackie, also recycles her mom’s clothes and makes brand new looks out of them.
The best part about recycling?
It’s completely FREE!
Jackie updated her mom's navy blue wool pencil skirt with a classic white V-neck, funky purple belt, and sassy suede booties.
I topped my vintage-inspired outfit (huge Black Friday finds!) with my mom's chunky cape-style sweater. (White blouse - H&M; Necklace - Ann Taylor Loft; Pencil Skirt - Forever 21; Tights - Calvin Klein; Lace-up heeled Oxfords - ALDO)
Sanaa Lathan in Hollywood
With all of the hype surrounding Hurricane Earl on the eastern seaboard, I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to break out my shorts this weekend. But, according to the weather forecast, big bad Hurricane Earl won’t disturb our Labor Day weekend. I choose Actress Sanaa Lathan as this weekend’s Style Inspiration. It is not often that you find paparazzi pictures of her strolling in Hollywood, so I thought I would jump at the chance to feature her and her outfit. This fun and flirty look should suit your Labor Day weekend needs. This look is not too dressy and not too casual. It’s perfect to go shopping, to a Labor Day cook-out, or even to an evening party if you dress it up with a blazer and heels. Click here for a clip of my favorite Sanaa Lathan movie.

Since it has been quite gloomy here in D.C. for the last couple of days, I cannot wear sandals so it’s time to break out the flats. I look in my closet and what do I see? The same black flats that I have been wearing since last year. I am in terrible need of a shoe shopping spree. I have always loved the cute leather flats with the gold T on the front of the shoe. Who makes that shoe? Oh, yeah Tory Burch! But, let’s face facts right now, not everyone has $125 or more to spend on a pair of flats. I went into Monkee’s (clothing, shoes, and accessories shop) with my mom last month and saw the cutest Tory Burch Flats. I hadn’t seen them in any other store; they looked like alligator skin and they were navy blue. I saddened to walk out of the store empty handed. But I realize that I have other priorities (i.e. student loans), which would make it insane to spend so much money on one pair of shoes. Right now, my budget for shoes is set within the ALDO price range. I must admit, that isn’t too bad. I really like the variety of colors offered for most of their shoe collections. I went online at aldoshoes.com and saw some flats that I may go to the store any try on. Check it out below.
I love the variety of colors! Silver would have been my first choice 🙂
KANOZA flat (Aldo shoes, $70)
MOSTYN flat (Aldo shoes, $19.98)
While the temperature will rise to almost 100 degrees today, that won’t stop the party! There are a ton of parties going on in Washington, D.C. this weekend. After a long week of work you deserve to treat yourself to some fun. This Friday, I chose Serena Williams as my style inspiration for evening events. She doesn’t wear elaborate dresses or gaudy jewelry. Simple dresses are a good choice because it is scorching hot outside and elaborate dresses and heaving jewelry will only make you feel hotter. Serena’s ensemble below is perfect for a hot summer night; tube dress, heels, and low-key jewelry.
