I’ll admit it. A huge part of why I shop at H&M is the store’s commitment to providing the latest trends for low prices. So, why would I be excited about higher prices at one of my staple stores? The retailer recently announced that it could raise prices to pay higher wages to textile workers in countries like Bangladesh, where the minimum wage is less than $70 a month. I’m hoping that other brands follow this trend. Corporate social responsibility is always in style.
I’m still on my shopping fast (ok, I bought
like eight a couple pairs of shoes, but bear with me here), so I’ve been shopping my closet and only buying small pieces to update my wardrobe. I picked up a printed scarf for about $10 at H&M a couple of months ago in anticipation of the fall. A simple knot took a plain button-down shirt and pencil skirt to a whole other level.
One of my Instagram fashionistas decided to copy the look and made it her own with a full skirt:
I pride myself on my keen shopping skills. My strategies rival the game-winning plays of your favorite championship team. The best victories are when I shop my own closet and find pieces that I have not worn in forever. I have fun finding new ways to wear my older clothes and mixing and matching them with newer pieces.
It’s no secret that yellow is my favorite color, so I treasure this top that my mother gave me from her own closet. I wore it while visiting Philly with some of my nearest and dearest this past weekend. Aside from being bright, it’s also lightweight, which came in handy for spending an 80-degree day in Rittenhouse Square. I wore a long gold necklace to update the look.
After a great weekend with the girls, Monday morning didn’t seem that bad. I actually got up early enough to fit in a short yoga routine with the roomie courtesy of Netflix. I was in such a good mood that I decided to dig in the depths of my closet and ended up pulling together a country-inspired outfit complete with a chambray shirt that I bought from H&M more than four years ago. The rest of my outfit is probably just as old (if not, older), including the layered necklace.
The only newish item that I wore were my leather lace-up sandals from the Loft. They are super comfy, and I’ve worn them almost every day for the past couple of months. I think my other shoes are starting to get jealous.
Shopping my closet is a fun adventure, and the best part? It costs zero dollars.
Former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown, attended Gotham Hall in New York City last week for the Escape To Total Awards event and private concert. Noticeably thinner after giving birth in September, Melanie wore two glamourous gowns. The top portion of the cream gown resembles a sheath dress and the criss cross black dress worn on the red carpet was elegant and sleek. Inspired by both looks, I put together two sets that could be worn in the workplace as well as a night on the town.
In the Office:
I usually wear brightly colored jewelry with solid neutral colored dresses.
The hawk is out. For many men, the winter means lots of gray, black, and brown. While the cold may be depressing, your clothes don’t have to be. Wearing green is said to bring good luck in the new year because it is the color of wealth and fortune. If you don’t believe in luck, use it as an accent to liven up your neutrals.

Yesterday, we gave you a sneak peak of Whitney on District Runway. Today, we would like to introduce you to her blog. We’ve known Whitney for about four years now and she’s always been a style inspiration. Not only is she fashionable, she’s a law student and a loveable girl! Attention! This street style picture was posted by Whitney. It immediately caught our attention. Houndstooth never goes out of style. If you’re looking to stock up on houndstooth, try H&M. This season, H&M has an entire collection dedicated to houndstooth. You can find dresses, scarves, skirts, and pants. The Jessica Simpson Collection also has a houndstooth pleated dress on the website that I’d love to get my hands on.
