If I was a Rich Girl | Mega Millions Wish List

by Jackie

The Mega Millions jackpot just went up from $640 million! I gave into the frenzy and bought one lonely ticket. Although I tried not get wrapped up into the craziness, I couldn’t help but let my mind wander off into a daydream. What would I do if I won? After I set my parents up with a luxury retirement package, paid off my student loans and my sister’s tuition, and start a charity, I’d treat myself to a few luxury purchases.

New York City Condo

I would love to go back to the city that raised me, but the cost of living makes even the smallest rentals seem out of reach. A slick condo in the middle of the city would be perfect for all of the interior design story boards that I’ve filed away in the recesses of my mind.

Personal Trainer

Fitness Guru, Shaun TI am a firm believer in eating well. I can only imagine the trouble I could get into with millions at my disposal to indulge in the best treats of the world. I would contract Shaun T to counteract my greediness.

Regular Vacations

Knowing me, I’d probably still work. (I know, I know). I wouldn’t want anyone to know that I won the lotto, so I’d have to keep up appearances. But, I would take time off and travel a lot more with the people I love.

Michael Kors

I would hire Michael Kors to design one-of-a-kind pieces for me. Yes. Yes, I would.

A private concert from my beloved. Why not?!

An A*cute Boutique

Sherria and I are always talking about opening up a boutique of our own, so that we could share A*cute with the masses.

[insert sigh here] One day.

What would you do with $640 Million?!

Day to Night Glam with Mel B

by Sherria

Former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown, attended Gotham Hall in New York City last week for the Escape To Total Awards event and private concert. Noticeably thinner after giving birth in September, Melanie wore two glamourous gowns. The top portion of the cream gown resembles a sheath dress and the criss cross black dress worn on the red carpet was elegant and sleek. Inspired by both looks, I put together two sets that could be worn in the workplace as well as a night on the town.

In the Office:

I usually wear brightly colored jewelry with solid neutral colored dresses.

Midnight Glamour:
Use faux eyelashes and designer perfume to feel like a superstar the entire night!

Look for Less: The Satchel Bag

by Sherria

When I first started working in the professional world, I used to carry a small purse to work and an additional grocery bag for my lunch. However, after working for a few years, I’ve discovered that carrying a satchel bag looks more professional and can also fit my lunch. I’ve shopped on Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Macy’s websites for the perfect satchel bag. However, the thought of paying $200-$300 on a bag made me cringe. I went shopping with my mom one day during the holiday season at TJMaxx and found the perfect satchel bag for only $30. As you can imagine, I was relieved not to spend a truck load of money on a work bag. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s perfectly fine to invest in a work bag, but with so many satchels on the market, no one will be able to notice if your bag isn’t designer. My usual trick is to buy a designer accessory and then mix it with a lower-end brand. It creates what I like to call “the rich effect,” which basically means that you can look rich without breaking the bank. Below are a few designer bags that inspired my “low-end” purchase.

Inspired by:

satchel bags

Mulberry leather handbag, $1,500
Cross body handbag, $38
Leather satchel handbag, $155
Oasis mini handbag, £22
Proenza Schouler satchel bag, $1,595
Botkier leather satchel handbag, $339

The Rich Effect:

Brown Satchel bag (TJMaxx, $30) and Marc by Marc Jacobs Wallet (original price $198; Bloomingdales sale price , $99)

I like the blue and camel-colored contrast.

There are zippers located on opposite ends of the bag, which allows you to pack more into it.

Just call me Mary Poppins:

I carry a ton of stuff in my bag. Lotion, snacks, water, books, etc.

I like to read books to pass time on the train.

Every girl needs her makeup bag and sunglasses!

Just when you thought I was joking about Mary Poppins….I’m really not. It’s one of my favorite scenes in a movie.

What I Wore | Office Holiday Party

My office holiday party is this afternoon, so I decided to get a little dolled up for the occasion. Instead of picking something red or green from my closet, I opted for a bright orange  dress with pretty detailing at the waist from the H&M Conscious Collection.

Dress: H&M Conscious Collection | Michael Kors tortoise-inspired bracelet watch | Leather and gold cuff bracelet from DC's Downtown Holiday Market

Why we still love fall style

by Sherria

The temperatures are expected to go below freezing tonight in New York. However, winter isn’t here yet.  There isn’t any snow on the ground and the orange and brown leaves are still falling off of the trees. I’m going to enjoy the fall as much as I can before December 21; the first day of the winter solstice. Other than the beautiful scenery, I love fall style. I asked a few A*cute readers what their top style picks were for fall and here’s what they came up with…

Face: Purple and Plum Lip Colors

Plum lips are super sexy during the fall and winter seasons“- says Ashlee Murph.

Main staple:

"There's something classic about blazers," says A*cute Editor, Jackie. "You can wear them with almost any outfit." (Photo taken at A*cute's Annual Clothing Exchange 2010)

Guest Post: Kerry Washington and Sprinkles Team Up for the Arts

by Maronel Stewart

(Photos by Jasmine Stovall)

After over 50 years of existence, Americans for the Arts has become the most prominent non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts in America. Actress and George Washington University alum Kerry Washington recently made an appearance at Sprinkles Cupcakes in Georgetown to meet and speak to fans in order to help garner funds for this organization. Despite the unseasonable cold and snow, my friend Jasmine Stovall and I decided to trek over to Georgetown to get a glimpse of our current institution’s alum.

We found Sprinkles packed with fans and avid supporters of the arts. After a worthwhile wait, we got close enough to meet and speak to Kerry Washington. When asked by a reporter why she decided to participate in an event such as this one, she expressed her appreciation of and gratefulness for the arts, and her desire to promote its prominence and continuity. She was excited to hear that we are currently students at her alma mater and thanked us venturing out to see her. Washington looked absolutely stunning in her red Michael Kors Dress.

Kerry Washington, the star of the ABC drama Scandal greeted and served fans at Sprinkles Cupcakes in Georgetown to raise funds for Americans for the Arts. All the proceeds from Sprinkles Red Velvet cupcakes purchased until November 6 will go towards Americans for the Arts. Sprinkles Cupcakes is located at 3015 M Street, NW.
