I’m so happy it’s Friday. With a week full of calculating media impressions and editing lengthy monthly client reports, my brain is dead. Luckily, my supervisor surprised the team with a time block of relaxation courtesy of the GlamSquad.
This super-chic service provides on-site hair styling, including blowouts, braids and curls. The idea behind GlamSquad is genius. According to the website, obviously “not everyone has time for a traditional salon appointment” so the ladies of GlamSquad bring the salon experience to you – from the home to the office.
While I would have loved getting a full hair wash and blowout, we do not have community sink in the office (at least not for hair washing) so the GlamSquad team performed dry styles on our hair. Many of my co-workers got the trendy “one-braid” style while others preferred curls.
My style was inspired by Carey Mulligan:
We wear a lot of green on this blog!
Good News Friends….It’s ALMOST Friday!!! I know it’s still Thursday, but you should start thinking good thoughts (i.e., what sort of cute ensemble can I throw together to wear to the office on Friday?). As stated in previous posts, “Casual Friday” at work is not a time to slack off and show up in your pajama jeans. Use “Casual Friday” as a day to show off your casual sense of style. A few of my co-workers started “jean shirt” Fridays. Almost everyone in our 6-cubicle section wears chambray shirts to work on Fridays. To dress up a chambray shirt, try a floral or leather skirt and heels to match. One of my supervisors has a leather skirt (I have one too!) that she wore to work a few weeks ago. Upon first glance in the store, I wouldn’t dare think about wearing it to work. However, my supervisor’s leather skirt is almost knee length and she wore black tights and a blazer to give the outfit a more polished look. Needless to say, the woman was on fire! She looked so cute, yet still work appropriate. Below is an inspirational board that mix and matches “jean shirt” Friday and a black leather skirt. What are you wearing this Friday?

Host a Thanksgiving gathering at the Office! Sample invitation from Evite
As the leaves begin to fall, it’s a great time to get together with family, friends, coworkers, etc. Why not host a Thanksgiving Luncheon in your office? I just did hosted the seventh Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon in my office. Every year, people look forward to the event. The compliments and feedback that I receive each year, far outweighs the work that’s put into the preparation for the event. I encourage everyone to throw an office event, and for that I’ll give you some suggestions to make this a successful and unforgettable celebration.
After choosing a date and time that works for the majority of your coworkers, prepare a very colorful and holidayish invitation. Next, send an e-mail to all employees with the invitation attached, contact a caterer to prepare a menu that would consist of turkey (of course), ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables (green beans, brussels sprout, your preference) stuffing, pasta, green salad, whole wheat dinner rolls, etc. And for desert, apple pie, pecan pie, cheese cake (I got all three). Lastly, beverages like flavored (grape, pommegranate, etc.) sparkling cider works great.
Don’t forget to get some decorations, table covers, flowers, etc. Go ahead and give it a shot. Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!
I’ve been a Michelle Williams fan since her days as “Jen” on Dawson’s Creek. Renowned photographer Annie Leibowitz captured the actress as Marilyn Monroe for her role in the upcoming biopic, My Week With Marilyn.
The vintage snapshots inspired me to brainstorm a Marilyn-esque look for the office.
