Get Uzo Aduba’s Fiery Look

by Sherria

The beautiful stars of Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” sat front row and enjoyed the festivities surrounding Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. One of the main actresses, Uzo Aduba (also known as “Crazy Eyes”) caught my attention when she arrived at the Vivienne Tam fashion show wearing a bright red A-line dress with black honey-comb designs. Uzo’s red hot look is appropriate to wear during office hours as well as after-work events. To achieve this look for work, shop for knee-length dress that won’t rise when sitting at your desk. I’ve provided a few work-appropriate dresses below from ModCloth and Macy’s. Don’t forget to shop outlet stores as well if you’re looking for a bargain.

Maggy London Cap Sleeve Zip Front Dress (Macy’s, sale price $66.99)

Luck Be A Lady Dress in Black and Red (ModCloth, $79.99)

Calvin Klein Sleeveless Pleated A-Line Dress (Macy’s, $89.98)

GQ Magazine: Five-Toed Shoes Are Ugly and Bad For Your Feet

Dennis Tang writes, ” ‘I’m running like our ancestors did,’ you said. But you looked ridiculous. And while you can now receive at least a partial refund for the money you spent on these shoes, no cash settlement can buy back your dignity.”

I agree completely. Five-toed shoes freak me out and I’d be glad to see them die a quick death.

Cancel Monday

As if Mondays weren’t bad enough, it’s raining and it’s still cold. Ugh. One way that I’m trying to un-suck Monday is to revisit the awesomeness that was this past weekend. Sherria came into town for our annual A*cute professional development workshop at Crittenton. (We’ll tell you more about that later, it was so much fun!) So, we decided to have an impromptu girls weekend, complete with a trip to the spa for springtime pedis, dancing the night away, and a boozy brunch.

We’re both Francophiles, so I made brunch reservations at Napoleon Bistro & Lounge in Adams Morgan. I could have stayed there all day pretending I was in Paris.  The food is rich and delicious (I had the Crab Benedict,  and stole some steak and French toast from my brunch buddies).  The black and white decor, petite bar, upbeat jazz playing in the background, and French movie projected on the back wall made brunching a true experience.

We decided to work off all the food we ate by shopping (obvi) and stumbled upon Violet Boutique. Boutique shopping is one of my fave activities because it’s intimate and there aren’t a million carbon copies of any item. The Violet ladies made me feel like I was the only girl in the store, though the second-story walk-up was pretty packed with shoppers stocking up for spring (whenever it feels like showing up). I picked up a couple of items and can’t wait to wear them when the sun finally decides to stick around.

Now, Everyone Can Go Nude.

by Jackie

I need to learn to trust my ideas. If I did, I’d be rich by now. For years, I’ve been searching for the perfect nude shoe that would match my deep brown complexion. I don’t know what the technical term is for my shade, but think of a perfect cup of hot chocolate, and you’ve got me 😉 . The Cristian Louboutin house has released “Nudes,” a five-shade collection in a variety of styles to match any skin tone. I hope that other designers (especially those in my price range) take the hint and realize that “nude” should include more than just Caucasia.  It’d be great to also have hosiery, nail polish, and underwear follow suit.

I mean, my birthday IS coming up. [insert wink here] No? Ok.
